This exhibition was inaugurated by Fr. Jais V Thomas. He was fascinated by the number
of coins presented in the exhibition and was intrigued and curious to learn about
these coins.
The coins presented at this exhibition date back to 345 BC and go till the present day. The coins showcased the various methods used to punch these coins and the uses of all these coins in the economy in history. Many scripts and languages were observed to be minted on the coins along with the usage of various metals for minting coins. We can also learn that the value of these coins during their time was determined by their weight and the metal used to mint them like Gold, Silver, Cooper Etc. The coins also showed changes in shape and size throughout history. Many coins had various symbols minted on them and many of them included Royal Emblems, Titles, Animals Etc. Even bilingual coins were presented in this exhibition which were started during the rule of the Muslim emperors. Coins minted during the Reign of Wodeyar of Mysore were showcased in this exhibition. This provides us with a huge collection of coins to compare the economies of different kingdoms during different periods. There were also commemorative coins displayed like the Platinum Jubilee of the Air Force of India,75 years of Independence of India,50 years of State Bank of India Etc. We can even observe the coinage of British India which is a huge collection and very fascinating. The coins of British India were usually minted with the Queen Victoria’s image. Some coins were minted with the king’s image like George IV and George V. Coin enthusiasts would really love this exhibition as the wide range of collections show the history of the Indian sub-continent through history.
The incorporation of British Indian coins featuring Queen Victoria and other rulers was noteworthy as it offered an intriguing perspective on the history of colonialism and its influence on Monetary Systems. The display was also a great way to learn about the economic dynamics.
All in all, the show was a monument to the enthusiasm and commitment of collectors
like Shri H K Ramarao, whose lifetime endeavors have resulted in the preservation
and presentation of priceless items that have enhanced our understanding of the
past. A fascinating investigation of the rich Numismatic Legacy of the Indian subcontinent
